Development[]
As of November, 2022, "dire mastiff" is a placeholder name; "hellhound" has been suggested as an alternative.
The original concept had more of a hyena-like face, but the developers felt that it wasn't quite alien enough. They wanted something that couldn't possibly have originated on Earth, they looked for ways to make it feel more in sync with the Infernals. After some iteration, they landed on a design featuring split jaws and a gaping maw.[1]
