"It was not mere violence! It was glory! It was conquest! IT WAS OUR DESTINY. Taken from us..."

The First Invasion[1] is a human term used to describe the Infernal-Celestial war fought on Earth c. 4900 BCE.[2]

History[]

Based on the location of various artifacts, the war was fought in locations that would later be known as Mexico, Canada, South Africa, and the Amazon, which was one of the Infernals' more significant bastions of power. The Arctic was overlooked by the Infernals during their campaigns. The details of the war are unclear, but the Infernals were apparently defeated by the Celestials, prevented from accessing the planet again through the Suppressor, which was buried somewhere in the Arctic.[2] In the aftermath of the war, the Infernals became the basis of demon myths of various human cultures.[3]

Aftermath[]

"It seems obvious that there is a stark difference between this piece and the Salish object, let alone the fragments from our previous digs. It makes me wonder about the story of these beings...it seems like it was a violent one. In fact, I’ve begun to consider that it was not just one alien species that came to our ancient world...but two."

- Dr. Edgar Fletcher(src)

The end of the war left behind numerous Infernal (and some Celestial) artifacts on Earth. Sometime towards the end of the second millennium, an Infernal known as "the Whisperer" began influencing human history, only to be disappointed time and again. However, in the 21st century, she found two human patsies to forward her goals—Preston Swift, followed by Clive Cullin. Both men were associated with the Sigma Program, and through her influence, Cullin disabled the Suppressor, allowing the Infernals to again invade Earth.[2]

By the 2130s, at least some in the Vanguard were aware of the Infernals original presence on Earth, and the conflict which they dubbed the "First Invasion." Tara Fletcher linked artifacts from ancient human cultures, speculating on their similarities to the ancient aliens.[1]
