For information on the game, see Stormgate.
Stormgates are portals used by the Infernal Host.
Overview[]
Stormgates are of magical origin,[1] and enable interdimensional travel from one planet to the next.[2] The Infernals have used stormgates to travel to various worlds, harvesting resources and decimating any resistance.[3]
After the war fought between the Infernals and Celestials on Earth, the Celestials left behind the Suppressor, which apparently prevented the Infernals from again opening a stormgate on Earth. Through the manipulations of the Whisperer, the Suppressor was disabled by Clive Cullin. The Infernals were aware of the Whisperer's actions,[4] and as soon as the Suppressor was disabled, a stormgate formed in the heart of Sigma Polar. After 7000 years, the Infernals had returned to Earth.[5]
Notes[]
- In an Game Informer article, it was stated that stormgates open during solar storms.[6] This appears to have been altered or misreported, as in Beyond the Brink, while the Earth stormgate opens during a solar storm, the storm itself is used to disable the Suppressor, rather than being used to open the stormgate itself.
- It was originally stated that humans opened stormgates centuries ago.[7] This has been changed to a twenty year timespan between the opening of the portal, and the start of Stormgate.[8]
- It was originally stated that multiple stormgates were opened,[9] whereas in the game's intro cinematic, only one portal is opened.[5] It is unclear if this is a change in development, or if more portals opened after the opening of the portal in Sigma Polar.
- While stormgates are of Infernal origin, the term "Stormgate" itself appears to have originated with Sigma 6, as the Whisperer never uses the term herself, while Cullin oversees Project Stormgate and Project Stormgate Mk. II.
