Biography[]
The Middle East[]
- Tara Fletcher(src)
In the period after the start of the Second Invasion, Fletcher searched for artifacts that could inform her and the Vanguard about what happened to Earth when the Infernals and Celestials first arrived.[1] Twenty years after the beginning of the Second Invasion, she obtained an artifact of Ubaid origin. She speculated that it could be related to the First Invasion, and flew back to Vanguard HQ.[3] Fletcher later explored Egypt, where she kept seeing the "Star of Death" symbol pop up. She believed that the Star was an ancient, powerful weapon that could be used against the Infernals. She speculated that the ancient Egyptians had built a cult around the artifact, and planned to investigate further.[1] Delving deeper into the ruins, she uncovered a statue of the Egyptian god Osiris. According to the inscription on the statue's back, the locals believed that Osiris's body was cut into pieces thousands of years ago, the parts then separated and hidden across the world. She wondered if the myth was linked to the Aegis Shield.[4]
The Arctic[]
"Signal's breaking up command, I'll do one last scan. See you soon, over."
- Command and Fletcher(src)
Still on the trail of the Aegis Shield, Fletcher travelled to the Arctic Circle, where she operated in ancient ruins. She was warned of an approaching storm and ordered to prepare for extraction, but she told Command that their signal was breaking up, and that she'd carry out one last scan. Using a probe, she was able to create holographic reconstructions of angel-like figures, giving a sense of how the ruins had once looked. Having recovered a piece of the Aegis Shield, she held it up to the holographic duplicate of one of the figures holding one such shield. This caused fragments in the ground to react and reconstitute the artifact. However, at this point, she was attacked by a battle thrall. Fletcher drew her pistol on the Infernal, but it easily shrugged off the rounds, and sent her sprawling. However, she was able to use the Aegis Shield to protect herself from the next blow, momentarily stunning the creature.[2]
Fletcher was saved by a Vulcan, who was able to kill the beast. However, more were closing in, and catching a ride on the Vulcan, Fletcher was lifted from the site.[2]
Notes[]
- Fletcher first appeared in the reveal cinematic for Stormgate in 2022,[2] though was not named until 2024 on the game's X page.[1]
- Fletcher bears an uncanny resemblance to Sarah Kerrigan of the StarCraft universe, which was worked on by ex-Frost Giant developers. While their roles vary, Fletcher's 'body art' (see above) depicts goggles, a rifle, and a blade, which Kerrigan carried in early StarCraft concept art.
