Therium is the secondary resource of Stormgate.
Game Effect[]
Therium is mostly used to pay for advanced units, structures, and upgrades. While unmined, therium gradually spreads and enriches. Both the patches and underground veins can be mined.[1] However, the veins have to be destroyed before workers can start mining from them.[2]
At the start of a match, therium begins as a small patch of crystals—players have to decide whether they want to start harvesting therium immediately, or whether they want to give the patch time to spread, in order for a bigger payload later.[2]
Development[]
Therium was inspired by Tiberium from the Command and Conquer series. Part of the reasoning behind having therium spawn away from bases was to make Stormgate feel like a lived-in world. Comparison has been drawn to the maps of the StarCraft series, where according to Kevin Dong, there was a sense of artificiality with how its minerals and vespene gas deposits were always found in set areas (like a multiplayer map rather than naturally occurring formations).[3]
In June, 2023, therium's temporary appearance was gray and glowing green polyhedrons.[1]
